一般过去表现在，将来和过去的将来，过去的过去
1. 一般过去时有时形态上为过去，实际上指现在，用过去形式乃是根据时态一致的原则：
如：They told me that the rats were a real problem around here
他们告诉我这里老鼠成灾了。
2.一般过去时有时候可以表示将来发生的事情
如： In the years to come it will be a great thing for a man to say that i died here like a hero.
在未来的岁月里，当人们说道我在这里英勇牺牲的时候，那会是多好啊！

3.一般过去时也可以表示过去的将来发生的事情

4.表示“过去的过去”的时候，如不是强调先后，因果等关系，常可用一般过去时，这种一般过时多用于从句。
